Crisis Intervention Services

What are Crisis Intervention Services?

A crisis occurs when a stressful life event overwhelms an individual’s ability to cope effectively in the face of a perceived challenge or threat. Crises occur at the spur of the moment and in a variety of settings as trauma can arise quickly. Crises are temporary, although the effects may become long lasting.

Crisis intervention is the emergency and temporary care given to an individual who, because of unusual stress in life, is unable to function or cope as he or she normally would. The goal is to interrupt the downward spiral of negative thinking and to increase stabilization. Crisis assessment and crisis intervention strategies focus on the client’s immediate situation including factors such as safety and immediate needs.

One-on-one clinical evaluations are available to identify whether a person could benefit from psychiatric hospitalization or other community treatment.

 Crisis Outreach

    1. When a service provider, medical professional, employer, family member, friend or individual believes a situation would benefit from on-site crisis intervention, they can call to speak to someone at Coleman.

    2. Coleman Behavioral Health offers a mobile service to help individuals, businesses or communities manage crisis situations in environments that are helpful for the individual(s) in crisis.

A critical stress management team is available to respond to communities or businesses in crisis. For example, we respond to employers who have experienced a work-related death/accident and to schools that have experienced the death of a student or teacher.
