988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is a free, confidential, 24/7 way for anyone in crisis to get immediate support by phone, text, or online chat. When someone calls or texts 988, they are connected with trained crisis counselors who listen without judgment, provide emotional support, help de-escalate intense feelings, and can guide individuals toward resources and next steps. These counselors are equipped to help with suicidal thoughts, overwhelming stress, substance use concerns, and emotional crises.
