What Is FEP?
First Episode Psychosis (FEP) is a term used to describe when a person first starts to show signs of psychosis. Our FEP program is designed to provide early psychosis intervention for adolescents and young adults.
What Causes FEP?
Causes of psychosis include:
- Psychotic disorders
- Health conditions
- Extreme stress
- Sleep deprivation
- Medications
- Drug use
Recognize Early Warning Signs of Psychosis
- Hearing, seeing, tasting, smelling, feeling things not there
- Unusual thoughts or beliefs that won’t go away
- Emotions that do not fit the situation–or no emotions at all
- Withdrawal from family or friends
- A sudden decline in self-care (not showering or eating regularly)
- Trouble thinking clearly or concentrating
Who We Are
First Episode Psychosis (FEP) is Coleman’s Coordinated Specialty Care program for FEP. The FEP team works together to provide treatment, information, and support to clients, their families, and other caring friends and supporters. The FEP program helps individuals ages 15-35 who have experienced psychotic symptoms for no more than 18 months.

Note: FEP clients must agree to participate in at least two of the following treatment components:
Counseling
- Helps with goal setting, develops ability to bounce back
- Educates individuals about this illness and how to have a healthy lifestyle
- Deals with stigma, prevents relapse of symptoms
Psychiatric Care
- Evaluation
- Medication management
- Helps with decision making
Supported Employment / Education
- Workforce placement & on-the-job services
- Assistance with educational goals
- Advocacy
Family Psychoeducation
- Caregivers / supporters learn symptoms
- Families improve communication & problem solving
- Builds support & empathy within the family
Case Management
- Assists in gaining greater independence
- Connects client to community resources / services
- Helps clients / families navigate systems
