Year-End Gifting

Did you know that your gift of support for Coleman Professional Services could significantly reduce your income taxes while providing meaningful support for our clients and mission?  But giving is so much more than a tax deduction!  Your support today makes all the difference in what Coleman can accomplish tomorrow.  Here are some giving ideas; we urge you to discuss your plans with your accountant or other professional advisor.

CASH: Outright gifts of cash are by far the easiest way to make a philanthropic gift and are generally tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.  If you itemize, you may lower your income taxes by simply writing a check to Coleman Professional Services before midnight December 31st.  Your gift is worth even more if your employer has a matching gift program – check with your Human Resources department and enclose the matching gift for along with your check; we’ll do the rest.

STOCK: A gift of appreciated stock is a great way to make a charitable gift and offers you further tax savings.  You may be able to avoid paying capital gains on the increase in value of the stock plus receive an income tax deduction for the full-market value of the stock at the time of your gift.  Or consider selling assets that have lost value and donating the proceeds to Coleman – you may be able to deduct the loss in value (cost basis less current value) and derive a charitable deduction for the current market value.

IRA: IRA owners age 70 1/2 or older can make a tax-free charitable contribution, transferring up to $100,000 per year directly to an eligible charity without paying income tax on the transaction. Couples filing jointly can exclude up to $200,000 of their retirement savings from income tax if they donate it to a qualified charity like Coleman Professional Services.

INSURANCE: If you have a life insurance policy you no longer find useful, receive a charitable deduction for the cash value of the policy when donated to Coleman Professional Services.

DAF: If you have a donor advised fund through Schwab, Fidelity or a local community foundation, please consider directing a distribution to benefit Coleman Professional Services through a DAF.

VOLUNTEER: Give of your time by volunteering with Coleman Professional Services.  For more information on volunteer opportunities, visit

BEQUEST: Become a Coleman Legacy Society member by establishing a bequest, charitable trust or other planned gift to help foster recovery, build independence and change the destinies of our Coleman clients.  A charitable bequest in your Will benefits Coleman while saving you tax dollars at the same time.  Keep in mind the long-term tax savings that may be the result of estate planning.  SuggestedBequest Language:

“I give and bequeath to Coleman Professional Services, Kent, Ohio (the sum of $____ or ____%) to support its exempt purposes (or insert name of program or project).”
