Hiring People with Disabilities
Coleman Employment Services offers work assessments during which an employer allows us to use his or her worksite to complete a short work assessment. During this time Coleman pays the salary of the worker, allowing the employer to observe a talented worker without a financial commitment. A job coach provided by Coleman is present with the individual to assess his or her work and social skills throughout this process. This gives the employer an opportunity to observe the skills and dependability of the worker, without being required to to hire the person at the end of the assessment. However, if an opening should occur in the future, the employer then has an understanding of the worker’s abilities and can call upon him or her at the appropriate time.
The vocational rehabilitation program offers an employer on-the-job training. Vocational rehabilitation can share in the payment of the wages for the employee for a limited time on a negotiated schedule.
Coleman Employment Services provides job coaching and job retention services at no cost to the employer both on and off the worksite. Our goal is to develop long-term employment between an employer and an individual with a disability.
The Internal Revenue Code has a disability-related provision of particular interest to businesses and people with disabilities. One of these incentives is the Work Opportunity Tax Credit Program (WOTC).
