Homeless Management Information System Coordination
Helping You Help the Homeless
The Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) is a local documentation system used to collect data on the provision of housing and services to all persons who are homeless and families or individuals who are at risk of being homeless. HMIS is required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for all who offer public housing. This allows HUD to identify patterns of service use, measure program effectiveness and describe the extent and nature of homelessness. HMIS includes information such as the person’s name, social security number, ethnicity, gender, disabling condition and housing status.
Your expert housing consultant can assist you with or handle the completion of the entire process of the HMIS. He or she will guide you through the technical requirements and will act as the “agency administrator.” This will include but is not limited to:
- Obtaining data from the client
- Entering data in a readable format
- Keeping the data up-to-date
- Reporting the data to HUD
The Continuum of Care Services (CoC) is included in this package as well. This means the CoC is responsible for selecting an HMIS software solution, providing oversight for HMIS policies and ensuring the quality of HMIS data. Your personal business management consultant will assist you and keep you current on all of the changing information making sure you are consistently informed and never in the dark.
